Who We Are

SingleTact is a product division of PPS (Pressure Profile Systems), operated by our UK branch, PPS UK Limited, based in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

SingleTact was developed to bring PPS's industry-leading tactile sensing technology to a broader, cost-sensitive audience. Unlike PPS systems, which are often tailored for a specific application, SingleTact sensors are ready-built, inventory-held products, available to ship as soon as an order is placed, backed by distribution centres worldwide for fast, local delivery.

30 Years in the Making

SingleTact stands on the shoulders of over 30 years of tactile sensing expertise. PPS has spent three decades developing custom force and pressure sensing systems for research institutions, medical device companies, and industry leaders around the world. The technology has since found its way into soft robotics, medical ergonomics research, and product development teams around the world.

Launched in 2013, SingleTact was created as a spin-off of that expertise: a way to take the same underlying sensing technology behind PPS's complex, custom-built systems and package it into an off-the-shelf product. The goal was simple: give researchers, students, and small teams access to the same calibre of tactile sensing used in advanced custom systems, at a fraction of the cost and without the long lead times of a bespoke build.

Built for Real-World Applications

SingleTact sensors are compact, capacitive tactile sensors available in 8mm and 15mm form factors, with calibrated force ranges from 1N to 450N. They're used in I²C-embedded designs for product integration and via USB kits for rapid prototyping, available calibrated or uncalibrated.

That flexibility has put SingleTact sensors to work across a wide range of fields, including soft robotics, medical ergonomics, footwear biomechanics, emergency-response wearables, and VR haptics. Our sensors have also been cited in peer-reviewed research, including publications in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, IEEE Transactions on Haptics, and Scientific Reports. This is a track record that reflects the same research-grade reliability our parent company, PPS, has built its reputation on.
